Joan VanBecelaere \nTitle — Past\, Present and (Revised) Future of Our UU Principles \nTopic — One of the first things new UUs learn about is our list of Principles and Purposes (Article II) that contain our core values and a list of sources we draw upon. Some of us feel quite strongly about these statements. The Article II Study Commission completed a two year study of Article II (Principles and Purposes) in January 2023 and presented it to the UUA Board. The report included recommended revisions to Article II. As you might imagine\, these proposed revisions to our Principles and Purposes were a very hot topic at the June 2023 General Assembly and voting on the changes will be a major topic at General Assembly 2024. \nWhere do the Principles come from? How were they first created and how have they changed over the years? Why was this review initiated? And what changes are being proposed? \nIt’s an often dramatic and contentious story of how we UUs articulate our core values\, reaching back to the late 19th century. We will look at the past\, present and future of our UU Principles. \nBio  — Rev. Joan VanBecelaere is a retired Unitarian Universalist community minister living in Columbus\, Ohio. Prior to retirement\, she was the Executive Director of UU Justice Ohio. She currently serves on the board of the national Voter Empowerment Project\, a non profit that supports increased voter engagement in under-represented and marginalized populations. She serves as treasurer on the board of the StoryTellers of Central Ohio and believes that effective story work can help us understand one another and change minds and hearts. \nPrior to her work with UU Justice Ohio\, Rev VanBecelaere was regional Lead with the Central East Region\, district executive for the old Ohio Meadville District\, vice president for student services at Iliff School of Theology in Denver CO\, and taught as an adjunct instructor in UU polity. \nShe is a member of the North Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Lewis Center\, Ohio. She lives in Columbus with her spouse\, Jerry\, and four rambunctious felines. \nFellowship has returned. Sunshine Wolfe \nTitle — Choosing Each Other \nTopic — What does it mean to prioritize relationship in a society so focused on other more material things?  How do we prioritize relationships as introverts\, overwhelmed folks\, neurodivergent folks\, and more living in a world that can feel\, at times\, overwhelming?  We will explore the importance of being rooted in relationship as a path to peace\, equity\, valuing religious difference\, and beyond. \nBio — Rev. Sunshine J. Wolfe is Congregational Field Staff for the Central East Region serving congregations in western Pennsylvania and across Ohio. Ghe hails originally from Indiana where ghe learned to sing\, dance\, and cause trouble- the social justice kind. Ghe is currently a member of TRUUsT (Transgender Religious professional Unitarian UniversalistS Together) and DRUUMM (Diverse Revolutionary Multicultural Ministries). \nSunshine is committed to helping congregations become the healthiest versions of themselves so that they can do their important work in the world. Ghe has served many congregations throughout the country first as Spiritual Development Director at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson. Ghe served as intern minister at West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church in Cleveland\, OH and then completed a Chaplaincy Residency at Indiana University Health Hospitals. Ghe has also served as Interim Minister at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Montgomery\, AL\, First Unitarian Church of Alton\, IL\, in the St. Louis metropolitan area and May Memorial UU Society in Syracuse\, NY. During gher service in Alton\, Sunshine was active with the resistance movements in Ferguson\, MO. Before seminary\, Sunshine worked for five years as a Case Manager with homeless adults searching for employment in Tucson\, AZ. Sunshine has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lawrence University in Appleton\, WI\, and a Master of Divinity degree from Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley\, CA. \nSunshine enjoys silliness\, board games\, music of all kinds\, and thunderstorms. Ghe particularly likes to go hiking\, color mandalas\, seek out new life and new civilizations\, and boldly go where a small handful have gone before. In other words\, ghe’s a science fiction geek with a specialty in Star Trek. \nSunshine identifies as genderqueer and transgender and uses any third gender pronoun including they/their\, ghe/gher\, and zi/hir. \nFellowship has returned. Will Humphrey \nTitle — Autumnal Equinox Service \nJoin us at the home of Joan and Reed Richmond for an Autumnal Equinox Service.\nCome early to enjoy a continental breakfast provided by the Board.\nBreakfast to start at 10am with service beginning at 10:30am. \nPlease follow the instructions below for parking. \nWe apologize for any confusion this may have caused. \nGoogle map address: 1009 Bangorville Rd Bellville\, Ohio 44813 \nInstructions for church service parking (because no room in the house driveway): \nPark on Bangorville Road side of our property. The gate is across the road from the trailer at 1009 Bangorville Rd. Bellville OH 44813\, so entering that into one’s maps app will probably be the easiest thing to do.  \nIt’s not supposed to rain\, so just park in rows in the grass inside the gate. We have a golf cart and will ferry anyone who’d find the 500-foot walk to the house a challenge. For most\, it’s slightly uphill\, but not so much that it is at all difficult.  \nA continental breakfast will be provided by the church board.\nPlease bring a chair or blanket to sit on. \nWe look forward to seeing you at this outdoor service. \nWe would like to thank Joan and Reed for opening up their home for this service. \nBio — Serving as our part-time parish minister\, he was ordained with us and has served us since 2015. Rev. Will is also the settled minister of East Shore UU Church. Rev Will is active with anti-racism work within Knox\, Richland\, and Wayne Counties and throughout the state; he works with the Heritage Universalist groups\, including the Universalist Convocation\, and Rev. Will is active within the Central East Region’s Summer Institute\, serving on the ministry/chaplain team for the past four years. Passionate about liberation theological perspectives and eco-feminism\, Rev. Will advocates for LGBTQ+ rights\, anti-racism and economic justice\, affirming the worth and dignity of each person\, fighting for justice\, equity\, and compassion in human relations. Rev.
