David’s magazine credits include Outdoor Photographer\, Popular Photography\, Professional Photographer\, and Shutterbug\, among others. \nAn educator for twenty years\, David worked first as high school English teacher and then as a university professor\, having instructed at Ashland University\, Ohio State University\, and Cornell University. He is an active leader in the Children & Nature movement. \nDavid presents seminars and workshops to a wide variety of audiences\, from public school\, college\, and university classes to photography groups\, nature clubs\, and civic organizations. SUMMARY:Rev. Joan Van Becelaere -- New Year\, Old Principles
DESCRIPTION:Speaker — Rev. Joan Van Becelaere \nLeader — Jen Gibson \nTitle — New Year\, Old Principles \nTopic — As UUs we have no creed or test faith. We do\, however\, “Covenant to Affirm and Promote” a statement of core values\, our Principles\, which are found on Page X of the gray hymnal. In one form or another\, our statement of principles has been part of our faith tradition since 1887. But our affirmation and promotion of these old principles may prove more difficult in the new year ahead. We face serious issues that may challenge our commitment to truth\, the democratic process\, justice\, equity\, the worth and dignity of every person and respect for the interdependent web. How shall we authentically live into our principles in the face of these rising challenges? \n*Mask are requested in the building*\nFellowship not available at this time.

SUMMARY:Jacquie Zarley -- Anything worth doing is worth doing badly; in front of everyone
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Service – 10:30 a.m. \nSpeaker: Jacquie Zarley\nLeader: Hayley Young \nTitle: Anything worth doing is worth doing badly; in front of everyone\nTopic: In our capitalistic world\, we have all been conditioned to “produce”. Everything we do must be commodified and marketed. This type of thinking means everything must be perfect in order to please the masses. Not only does this prevent many of us from sharing our gifts and newly developing talents with others\, it also causes us to be terrified of making mistakes and failing in front of others. Failing and making mistakes is an important part of learning.\nThis “I must do it perfectly or not at all” mentality is a huge block to our anti-racism work. We are often so afraid to make mistakes and be called out that we stand frozen\, unable to take the risks necessary to change. What if we began to normalize making mistakes\, failing and doing things badly in front of others? How might this improve our ability to take risks? In a world full of fearful experts\, This sermon challenges you to dare to be a risk taking hot mess! \nBio: Jacquie Zarley is a 2020 graduate of the Methodist Theological School in Ohio. She is an Aspirant in the Unitarian Universalist Ministerial Fellowshiping process. She is a member.of the North Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Lewis Center\, Ohio. Jacquie is the newly appointed Moderator of the Social Justice Committee for The Interfaith Association of Central Ohio (IACO) She lives with her partner\, Karlan in Wadsworth\, Ohio \n*Mask are requested in the building*\nFellowship not available at this time.
