DESCRIPTION:Sunday Service – 10:30 a.m. \nSpeaker: Elaine Tanner\nLeader: Kristin Ellis \nTitle: My Appalachia\nTopic: Elaine Tanner’s roots run deep in Appalachiaculture-given insight as she exposes the exploration of the people and the lands after centuries of extractive practices in these Appalachian mountain communities.\nWe will start the program by sharing a short awardwinning documentary film\, “Healing in the Holler\,” by Andrew Dungras\, introducing a decades-long battle she herself has faced challenging the social and environmental complications surrounding the extraction of fossil fuels. We will address programs in place and the future as we see it developing after coal.\nThere will be an update on local oil and gas development status since Elaine’s last visit and the latest legal update on Ohio’s brine bill. \n*Masks are requested in the building*\nCoffee and Water available after the service downstairs.\nFull Fellowship not available at this time.

SUMMARY:Chris Crews -- The Battle Over Critical Race Theory in Ohio Schools
DESCRIPTION:Board Meeting – 9:00 a.m.\nSunday Service – 10:30 a.m. \nSpeaker: Chris Crews\nLeader: Bambi Gordon \nTitle: The Battle Over Critical Race Theory in Ohio\nSchools\nTopic: Like many other states in the country\, Ohio is currently in the throes of a heated clash between proponents of racial justice and opponents who deny the realities of systematic racism. Over the past year\, Ohio\nschools have become the focus of a concerted\, national\nculture war being waged by white conservatives. In 2021\nCritical Race Theory and institutional racism became central topics of public debate\, thanks to two pieces of legislation (Ohio House Bills 322 and 327) that will introduce a series of new “divisive concepts” which will be banned\nfrom discussion in Ohio schools\, including institutions of higher education like Denison. This talk will focus on the political stakes for educators in Ohio from these two bills\, while also critically situating these debates in relation to the deeper history of anti-Black politics in Ohio and the growing danger from white supremacist and religious nationalist movements globally. \n*Masks are requested in the building*\nCoffee and Water available after the service downstairs.\nFull Fellowship not available at this time.

SUMMARY:Nikki Lewis -- Becoming a Champion for Our Community
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Service: 10:30 a.m. \nSpeaker: Nikki Lewis\nLeader: Kristen Ellis \nTopic – Becoming a Champion for Our Community \nDescription – Through this presentation I hope to share with others how loving where you live can change not only your life but many others you come across. By getting involved\, learning about the “behind the scenes”\, and finding a way to impact your community\, one person CAN make a difference. As a transplant to Richland County\, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I moved from the big city to small town America. And after all these years\, I can’t picture myself living anywhere else. \nBio: Nikki Lewis is a community champion\, social justice advocate\, and adoption reform defender.\nNikki grew up in a military family which meant moving multiple times\, rarely living with family members\, learning to easily make friends in new communities\, and trying to find her place in the world. It was during these days that Nikki learned that everyone is worth fighting for and she could not sit back and remain a small fish in a big pond.\nNikki is a transplant to Richland County where she quickly learned that small town living is very different from the big cities she was used to. After floundering for a few years\, she had that one moment that changed her life. For her\, it was receiving a job offer for a local business. This opportunity allowed her the chance to connect to her community in a way that she always hoped for but never knew where to begin.\nSince that moment\, Nikki has taken her passions and found ways to plug into her community. From sitting on boards of directors\, to the creation of impactful programming\, to volunteering and mentoring\, and being part of groups that have the potential to change the landscape of Richland County. Nikki knows she has found home in Richland County and she wants to play an active role in changing the perception while empowering others to do the same.\n*Mask are requested in the building*\nCoffee and Water available after the service downstairs.\nFull Fellowship not available at this time.
