The strong mend at the broken places.” Virtually all of us face tragedy from time to time in our lives. He also was on the faculty at Oberlin College before moving back to the Mansfield area some 45 years ago. He was an avid bicyclist\, skier\, swimmer\, and hiker in his younger days. SUMMARY:Rev. Joan VanBecelaere — Reflections on Matthew Chapter 25
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Service — 10:30 a.m. \nLeader — Margaret Lin \nSpeaker — Rev. Joan VanBecelaere \nTitle — Reflections on Matthew Chapter 25 \nTopic — In our current politics\, one side speaks of the tens of millions who will be cut off from their health care and their food. The other side says nobody will feel the cuts as they strip away essential food and medical programs. Politicians ignore the pain of low-income US families and tell vulnerable people to fill out more forms and just work harder.\nIn the gospel of Matthew Chapter 25\, Jesus tells a prophetic story and closes it saying ” I was hungry\, I was thirsty\, I was naked\, I was a stranger\, I was sick\, I was in prison. What you do to “the least of these\,” you do to me.” On Aug 10\, we will unpack this gospel story and the modern meaning of “least of these.” \nBio — Rev. Joan VanBecelaere is a retired Unitarian Universalist community minister. Prior to retirement\, she was the Executive Director of Unitarian Universalist Justice Ohio. She has also served as regional Lead with the Central East Region\, district executive for the old Ohio Meadville District\, vice president for student services at Iliff School of Theology in Denver CO. She has a long standing interest in politics and has a masters of public administration and policy analysis from CU Denver. \nShe is a member of the North Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Lewis Center\, Ohio. She lives in Waverly\, OH with her spouse\, Jerry\, and three lovely felines. \nJoin us downstairs after service for coffee and conversation. \nMasks are optional in the building\, and we fully support individuals’ choices regarding their use.

SUMMARY:Christopher Reynolds — Remember There Is A Heaven\, pt. 1
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Service — 10:30 a.m. \nLeader — Hayley Young \nSpeaker — Christopher Reynolds \nTitle — Remember There Is A Heaven\, pt. 1 \nTopic —Join Christopher Reynolds for this invitation to renew democracy by returning to our Western roots. Plato’s Republic encourages a healthy self-esteem. In chapter 10\, The Myth of Er\, Socrates reminds us that human souls are immortal and we participate in the choosing of our lives. \nIn closing Socrates advises: “Wherefore my counsel is\, that we hold fast ever to the heavenly way and follow after justice and virtue always\, considering that the soul is immortal and able to endure every sort of good and every sort of evil.” \nAs we re-define American democracy together\, our souls’ innate resilience can help us evolve from a culture that holds fast to the heavenly way into a culture that holds fast to a sacred union of Heaven and Earth – a Way of Water. \nWhen human beings remember their Original Instructions\, there is a Heaven and It is spread upon the Earth. \nBio — F. Christopher Reynolds\, M.Ed\,\, is a singer\, teacher and alchemical shaman. His mission is Home-Making — to sing about\, to teach\, and to heal American culture’s sacred relationships with the lands\, ancestors\, peoples\, and stars. He is a singer-songwriter with 20 original albums.\nHe is the lead author on the only published papers on depth psychology\, giftedness\, soul\, and creativity. Chris is also published in organic creativity\, holistic learning and spirituality in education. He is a co-founder of archetypal ecology and No Man’s Folk.\nHe is a board member and ritual consultant for Warriors Journey Home and has been a ritual leader with them since 2015\, including 2 pilgrimages to Vietnam. His website is: www.urrealist.com \nJoin us downstairs after service for coffee and conversation. \nMasks are optional in the building\, and we fully support individuals’ choices regarding their use.
