SUMMARY:Rainbow Eagle — About Today & Future Prophecies From Indigenous Cultures
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Service — 10:30 a.m. \nLeader — Margaret Lin \nSpeaker — Rainbow Eagle \nTitle — About Today & Future Prophecies From Indigenous Cultures \nTopic — \nBio — Rainbow Eagle\, a.k.a. Rolland J. Williston\, is a member of the Okla-Choctaw Nation in Oklahoma. He was honored to participate in the International UFO Congress in 2011. He has taught overseas 47 times in the past 40 years. A personal vision has been given to him by the Great Mystery through major ceremonies: \n\nTo be in the midst of many Native communities and traditions\, and to have a strong relationship with Mother Earth.\nTo visit Indigenous elders in order to recover as much of the ancient knowledge as possible.\nTo conduct various ceremonies patterned after elders and his personal vision.\nTo share the teachings of an ancient Peace Shield drawing at this time of the 7th Fire—“to help Earth Walkers come into relationship with all life everywhere.” This drawing was handed down to Rainbow Eagle in two winter visits with Erv Romans (PEN-NA-SHE of the Martin Clan)\, last of the Ontonagon Band of Ojibwe/Anishinabeg.\n\nHis second book\, Native American Spirituality: A Walk in the Woods\, includes teachings related to natural spirituality\, “Peace Shield” teachings\, and prophecies of both North and South America\, as well as spiritual guidance about preparing for cosmic relationships. \nRainbow Eagle’s third book\, The Ancient Roots of Christianity: A Native American’s Look Through Christianity\, is also available. His view is that\, “Until we have the courage to ask questions about our spiritual roots\, whether they are from Christian\, Native American\, or other traditions\, we will remain separated from our true spiritual identity.” In reference to Christianity\, he says\, “It’s not about finding the most pure form of Christianity\, but more about how each individual can experience Yeshua personally.” \nJoin us downstairs after service for coffee and conversation. \nMasks are optional in the building\, and we fully support individuals’ choices regarding their use.

SUMMARY:Christopher Reynolds — It Is the Morning of the Age of Aquarius: Answer to Job
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Service — 10:30 a.m. \nLeader — Jen Gibson \nSpeaker — Christopher Reynolds \nTitle — It Is the Morning of the Age of Aquarius: Answer to Job  \nTopic — It is now the Age of Aquarius because the sun at spring equinox is at the edge of the constellation of Aquarius\, the Water Bearer. Full spiritual maturity invites us into collective stewardship of ideas that in the past were the province of private groups. Central to this is taking up responsibility for our imago dei — image of God. \nIn the past\, this information was hidden in the Book of Job. There are things that Job and his community know about the transformation of the God-image through time that the All-Powerful\, All-Knowing\, All-Good Divinity in the story does not know. Job knows that God is going to die\, be transformed\, and evolve with humanity. \nIt is morning in the Age of Aquarius and we are all called to rise up for our sacred labors of the evolution of the God-image. \nBio — F. Christopher Reynolds\, M.Ed.\, is a singer\, teacher and alchemical bard. His mission is to sing the dream of Peace on Earth onward through songs\, writings\, ritual\, healing concerts and workshops. He is a singer-songwriter with 20 releases. His publications include depth psychology\, soul\, creativity\, and giftedness. He is a ritual consultant for Warriors Journey Home. Learn more at his website: urrealist.com. \nJoin us downstairs after service for coffee and conversation. \nMasks are optional in the building\, and we fully support individuals’ choices regarding their use.

SUMMARY:Jen Gibson — Still\, We Begin Again
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Service — 10:30 a.m. \nFlower Communion \nDuring today’s service\, we will celebrate our Annual Flower Communion—a cherished tradition of beauty\, diversity\, and shared community. \nWe invite you to bring a single flower or a full bouquet to place on the altar. After a blessing\, you will be invited to come forward and receive a flower that you did not bring\, symbolizing our shared connection and the gifts we give and receive in community. \nThis simple yet meaningful ceremony honors the cycle of life\, renewal\, and the arrival of spring. Each flower\, unique in its own way\, reminds us of the beauty found in diversity and the strength of our gathered community. \nThe Flower Communion was created in 1923 by Rev. Norbert Čapek\, founder of the Unitarian Church in Prague\, Czechoslovakia. His wife\, Rev. Maja Čapek\, later introduced the tradition to the United States. Tragically\, Norbert Čapek lost his life in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II\, but his legacy of unity and peace lives on through this beloved ritual. \nWe hope you find meaning and joy in this time-honored tradition. \n\nLeader — Reed Richmond \nSpeaker — Jen Gibson \nTitle — Still\, We Begin Again \nTopic — A reflection on Easter and Flower Communion\, exploring renewal\, hope\, and moral courage through the lives and teachings of Unitarian Universalist leaders Forrest Church and Norbert Čapek\, and what their legacy calls us to practice in our own time. \nBio — Jen Gibson is a member of All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church\, where she serves as both the Administrative Coordinator and a member of the Board as Trustee for Social Media\, Advertising\, and Growth. She also serves as a member of the Mansfield United Lions Club. Born and raised in the Mansfield area\, Jen still calls it home\, where she lives with her husband\, Rob\, their daughter\, Carolynn\, and their spirited cat\, Sirius Black. Raised Catholic\, Jen found her spiritual home at All Souls in 2017\, drawn to the church’s balance of humanist values and inclusive spiritual exploration. \nJoin us downstairs after service for coffee and conversation. \nMasks are optional in the building\, and we fully support individuals’ choices regarding their use.

SUMMARY:Ric Sheffield — Whistling Dixie: Ohio’s History of Resistance to the Black Vote
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Service — 10:30 a.m. \nLeader — Brian Moore \nSpeaker — Ric Sheffield \nTitle — Whistling Dixie: Ohio’s History of Resistance to the Black Vote \nTopic — FALSE PROMISES: The Struggle for Black Voting Rights in 1800’s Ohio\nWhat it truly means to be a “citizen” is a question that African Americans have struggled with for generations. It often was much more than just personal dignity at stake. The right to vote was key to full citizenship for Black men in Ohio. Since the 1860s\, they were willing to risk everything to exercise the elective franchise and refused to be denied at the polls. Even the passage of a voting rights amendment to the Constitution amounted to no more than a false promise.\nFalse Promises is a collection of stories of courage and resolve as Black men tried to exercise their rights as citizens in late-1800s Ohio\, a state thought to be less antagonistic to racial equality in the Reconstruction era. These men\, however\, met resistance in nearly every corner of the state. It was particularly virulent in the rural counties in southern Ohio. Over decades\, the state slowly began to dismantle barriers to the Black vote. Much of the change was the consequence of brave African Americans willing to risk it all to challenge the denial of the right to vote. These stories reveal how contemporary voter-suppression tactics have roots in Ohio’s history of resistance to universal suffrage and challenge the perception that voting rights injustices\nwere solely confined to the South. \nBio — Ric S. Sheffield is Professor Emeritus of Legal Studies and Sociology at Kenyon College\, where he directed the Law & Society Program and the John Adams Summer Legal Scholars Program. \nBefore joining Kenyon\, he served for ten years as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio. He began his legal career as a civil rights attorney\, handling primarily sex and race discrimination cases\, and later served as chief attorney for the state’s consumer protection division. \nHis research and writing have explored the intersection of law with race\, gender\, and ethnicity\, with particular attention to the African American experience in rural Ohio. He has also been selected as a speaker with the Ohio Humanities Council’s speakers bureau\, lecturing widely on issues of race\, law\, and rural diversity. \nIn addition to publishing articles\, reviews\, and book chapters on legal history and African American social and legal history\, he is the author of We Got By: A Black Family’s Journey in the Heartland and False Promises: The Struggle for Black Voting Rights in 1800s Ohio. \nA graduate of Case Western Reserve University\, where he studied sociology and law\, Professor Sheffield also served in a number of leadership roles at Kenyon\, including department chair and associate provost. \nJoin us downstairs after service for coffee and conversation. \nMasks are optional in the building\, and we fully support individuals’ choices regarding their use.
