SUMMARY:Jacquie Zarley — What Would God Do?
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Service — 10:30 a.m. \nLeader — Hayley Young \nSpeaker — Jacquie Zarley \nTitle — What Would God Do? \nTopic — Remember those Rubber bracelets we all wore in the 90’s WWJD? We thought it was so deep and pious to ask ourselves what would Jesus do? In any given situation. We based our answers on what we know about Jesus\, Jesus was loving and healing and forgiving. He fed the poor and healed the sick\, raised the dead and cared for the less fortunate. We all know what Jesus would do in any given situation. But what about God? What do we know about God? If we read all the same texts that give us insight into Jesus\, we find that God is not always loving and forgiving. God is often wrathful\, vengeful\, and judgmental.\nJacquie will explore our human concepts of God as they show up in our lives \nBio — Jacquie Zarley is a 2020 graduate of the UU house of Studies\, which is embedded within the Methodist Theological School in Ohio. She is a chaplain resident at the VA Hospital of Cleveland. She lives with her partner\, Karlan\, in Euclid\, on the shore of Lake Erie. \nJoin us downstairs after service for coffee and conversation. \nMasks are optional in the building\, and we fully support individuals’ choices regarding their use.

SUMMARY:Rev. Joan VanBecelaere — Wearing Your Heart On Your Sleeve
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Service — 10:30 a.m. \nLeader — Jen Gibson \nSpeaker — Rev. Joan VanBecelaere \nTitle — Wearing Your Heart On Your Sleeve – A Intergenerational Service \nTopic — Valentine’s Day is said to be a time when we celebrate love of various kinds. And it is said that some of us wear our hearts on our sleeves in this celebration. \nThis phrase means exposing our true emotions\, making ourselves vulnerable and transparent and letting it all hang out. The phrase is so pervasive that from Ringo Starr to Eminem to Carrie Underwood\, those words are found in a range of musical genres. \nBut\, what kind of sleeve? And why on a sleeve and not a pants leg or around your neck? There’s no clear answer. But many legends attempt to get at the heart of the matter (we are talking about Valentine’s Day\, after all!) and try to explain the source of the saying and how we might put it into positive practice. \nThis will be an intergenerational service with storytelling. \nBio — Rev. Joan VanBecelaere is a retired Unitarian Universalist community minister. Prior to retirement\, she was the Executive Director of Unitarian Universalist Justice Ohio. She has also served as regional Lead with the Central East Region\, district executive for the old Ohio Meadville District\,\, vice president for student services at Iliff School of Theology in Denver CO. She has a long standing interest in politics and has a masters of public administration and policy analysis from CU Denver. \nShe is a member of the North Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Lewis Center\, Ohio. She lives in Columbus with her spouse\, Jerry\, and four very active felines. \nJoin us downstairs after service for coffee and conversation. \nMasks are optional in the building\, and we fully support individuals’ choices regarding their use.
