Title — The Moai of Rapa Nui (Easter Island)
Topic — PowerPoint lecture will explain migration of Polynesians throughout the Pacific, their ancestor-worship religion, and include information on why and how the statues were carved, how they were moved throughout the island, and various ideas on the collapse of Easter Island society and population.
Dr. Berra will be available after the service to greet attendees and sign books for those interested.
Bio — Dr. Tim M. Berra holds a Ph.D. in Biology from Tulane University (1969) and is Academy Professor and Professor Emeritus of Evolution, Ecology & Organismal Biology at The Ohio State University. He also serves as a University Professorial Fellow at Charles Darwin University in Darwin, Australia, and as a Research Associate at the Northern Territory Museum.
He is a three-time Fulbright Fellow to Australia (1969, 1979, 2009) and received the Friend of Darwin Award from the National Center for Science Education in 2022. In 2023, he was a National Science Foundation EPSCoR Visiting Scholar at the University of Guam.
Dr. Berra is the author of more than 100 scientific papers and ten books, including The Peopling of Polynesia: From Taiwan to Easter Island (2025), Bourbon: What the Educated Drinker Should Know (2019), Darwin and His Children: His Other Legacy (2013), Charles Darwin: The Concise Story of an Extraordinary Man (2009), Freshwater Fish Distribution (2007), A Natural History of Australia (1998), and Evolution and the Myth of Creationism (1990).
