Topic – Becoming a Champion for Our Community
Description – Through this presentation I hope to share with others how loving where you live can change not only your life but many others you come across. By getting involved, learning about the “behind the scenes”, and finding a way to impact your community, one person CAN make a difference. As a transplant to Richland County, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I moved from the big city to small town America. And after all these years, I can’t picture myself living anywhere else.
Bio: Nikki Lewis is a community champion, social justice advocate, and adoption reform defender.
Nikki grew up in a military family which meant moving multiple times, rarely living with family members, learning to easily make friends in new communities, and trying to find her place in the world. It was during these days that Nikki learned that everyone is worth fighting for and she could not sit back and remain a small fish in a big pond.
Nikki is a transplant to Richland County where she quickly learned that small town living is very different from the big cities she was used to. After floundering for a few years, she had that one moment that changed her life. For her, it was receiving a job offer for a local business. This opportunity allowed her the chance to connect to her community in a way that she always hoped for but never knew where to begin.
Since that moment, Nikki has taken her passions and found ways to plug into her community. From sitting on boards of directors, to the creation of impactful programming, to volunteering and mentoring, and being part of groups that have the potential to change the landscape of Richland County. Nikki knows she has found home in Richland County and she wants to play an active role in changing the perception while empowering others to do the same.
