Dr. Tim Berra — Bourbon: What the Educated Drinker Should Know

May 29, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Sunday Service — 10:30 a.m.

Speaker — Dr. Tim Berra
Leader — Brian Moore

Title — Bourbon: What the Educated Drinker Should Know

Topic — Berra’s latest book is totally different from his previous works. It is entitled Bourbon: What the Educated Drinker Should Know and was published by Acclaim Press in 2019. It defines what can and cannot be called bourbon and discusses the history of this uniquely American beverage. It describes how bourbon is made and explains the mash bill, cooking, fermentation, barrel making, distillation, and aging. The book is lavishly illustrated with Berra’s own color photographs of distilleries taken along Kentucky’s Bourbon Trail.

Bio: Dr. Berra is the former editor of The Ohio Journal of Science and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium where he also served on the Conservation and Collection Management Committee. He was also the ichthyological book review editor of Copeia, the journal of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists. He resigned these positions at the end of 2000 to pursue fieldwork supported by the National Geographic Society in Australia in 2001. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists.

He has done fieldwork on nursery fish in the Northern Territory of Australia and has made 8 research trips there between 2001-2016 resulting in 18 papers on their biology. The males of this bizarre fish carry eggs on a hook on their head.
